Meet The Interns

The 2011 Solar Living Institute Interns come from all over.  Well, all over the US this year.  Each contributes to our community in their own unique way ...  check 'em out!

But first ... Group shot:

Brandon

Chef extraordinaire, (second only to Kathryn), Brandon can be found wielding his wustof knife in the kitchen, choppin' like Julia Child, mixing up spicy marinades and putting tap on just about everything.  He's not afraid to slay a sick chicken and is the only person I know that pronounces the "t" in exactly.

Vaughn

Vaughn is the Drum Circle King.  He can oft be heard jamming in the boys (ahem, mens) yurt.  He's always smiling, running around, and has the energy of a 19 year old.  (Did I mention he loves sugar?)  After a 2 hr tour with100+ 5th graders, he's the only one still beaming ready for round two.  A new fan of yerba mate, we fear he may actually start bouncing off the walls.

Cassie

Cassie.  She's our energy expert.  Cassie arrived at SLI knowing more about PV than all the boys combined and could teach our week long PV 200 course without breaking a sweat.  An Ultimate champ, she'll knock an apple off your head from 200 yards away.  Really.

David

David aka The Project Slayer.  He's got a million ideas, if only he had more time (and hands!)  He traveled the farthest to be here this year, all the way from Maine, and can often be heard starting a conversation with "You know what I've been thinking ... "  He makes delicious granola.

Kathryn

The resident Herbalist.  When she's not out cooking Brandon in the kitchen, she can be found garbling wild oats, making crazy herbal concoctions and dominating miso soup.  If she's not in the office or the garden, you can find her vogue-ing in the yoga studio.

Pseudo-interns:  These 3 aren't "official" SLI interns, but that doesn't matter one bit; they're part of our community, work just as hard, and we love them just the same.

Mimi

Mimi's the shopaholic of the bunch.  She's a volunteer and was buds with David pre-SLI, so she's fully integrated into our family and living in the teepee.  She's not afraid to rock 4" heels on the homestead and has been known to clean out a thrift store.  We're still waiting for her to de-braid and rock her famous fro.

Eric

Fresh off a farm in New Zealand, this Permaculture stud is schooling us left and right in the garden.  Eric and Brittney are SLI's caretakers, so they'll be giving weekend tours and assisting with the campgrounds.  He's an avid raw foodie, so if you see him nibbling on some chard in the garden, it ain't no thang - he's just having breakfast.

Brittney - Eric's other half arriving in June.  More on Brittney after she arrives.
